On Thursday, April 9, 2026 — RPDPS Officers responded to the area of Enterprise Drive and Commerce Boulevard after receiving a report of a possible unreported stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, they contacted the reporting party, who pointed out a parked vehicle in the lot and advised it had recently been stolen and may contain a firearm.

Officers approached the vehicle and located a female suspect inside. She was safely detained, and a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded firearm along with several bottles of nitrous oxide.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. The suspect was arrested and booked into county jail on multiple felony charges.

Strong teamwork and quick action by your RPDPS Officers helped safely resolve the situation and remove a dangerous weapon from the streets!

🚒Rohnert Park Structure Fire Response🚒
On Saturday, 4/4/2026, RPDPS fire crews responded to a structure fire on Rancho Verde Circle. Fire Crews arrived quickly and got right to work, taking control of the situation within minutes.

With coordinated efforts and strong teamwork, firefighters were able to knock the fire down fast and prevent it from spreading inside the home. Having fire-trained personnel already out on patrol means help is often on scene within moments—supporting fire crews right away and making a real difference during those critical first minutes.

Because of that rapid response and teamwork, damage was limited to the exterior of the residence.

Special thanks to Rancho Adobe Fire and Sonoma County Fire for their assistance in bringing this fire under control quickly!

We want to wish Sergeant Wax the very best as he continues his career with the Novato Police Department after nine years of dedicated service to RPDPS. During his time here, Sgt. Wax served this community in an extraordinary range of roles — Officer/Firefighter, Detective, Engineer, Sergeant, Captain, Detective Sergeant, Peer Support Sergeant, and Legal Update Instructor.

Each of these assignments reflects years of experience, training, and leadership. Sgt. Wax was not only a versatile and trusted leader, but also a mentor and resource for countless officers across the department. His departure represents the loss of institutional knowledge that cannot be replaced by simply hiring new personnel.

Losing experienced leaders like Sgt. Wax continues to impact our staffing and operational capacity. We remain hopeful that the City will make staffing and retention a true priority in the coming year. Continued losses of experienced personnel highlight an ongoing issue that must be addressed if RPDPS is to maintain the level of service our community expects and deserves.

We would like to wish Sergeant Morrow the very best as he steps away from his career with RPDPS. During his more than eight years of service, Sgt. Morrow served as a Motor Officer, a member of the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), an FTO, and played a key role in restarting the Explorer Program. His contributions had a lasting impact on this department and the community he served.

Sergeant Morrow’s departure is another significant loss to our staffing levels. Positions like the ones he held are not easily replaced — they require years of training, experience, and commitment. When experienced leaders leave, the department loses knowledge, mentorship, and operational capability that cannot be quickly rebuilt.

We remain hopeful that the City will make staffing and retention a true priority in the coming year. Continued losses of experienced personnel highlight an ongoing issue that must be addressed if RPDPS is to maintain the level of service our community expects and deserves.

🚨🚔 Outstanding Police Work by RPDPS 🚔🚨

In the early morning hours of December 13, 2025, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officers demonstrated the professionalism and vigilance they bring to the job every day. After receiving a FLOCK camera alert for a stolen dark-colored Kia sedan, an officer quickly located the vehicle on Golf Course Drive and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to yield, leading to a pursuit.

Officers safely coordinated the pursuit through the “G” Section of Rohnert Park, where the suspect vehicle drove recklessly through residential neighborhoods. The incident was brought to a controlled end in the “H” Section when officers blocked the vehicle in a cul-de-sac. One suspect attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended, while the driver was taken into custody inside the vehicle. The vehicle was later confirmed stolen out of Virginia and had been cold-plated.

One officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury and received medical treatment. Both suspects were arrested on multiple charges. This incident highlights the dedication, training, and commitment RPDPS officers show every day to keep Rohnert Park safe.

The RPPSOA would like to congratulate our newly promoted Engineers!

Our in-house Engineer Academy consists of 140 hours of rigorous training, where students learn to drive and operate our fire engines and ladder truck. Upon completion of the academy, candidates undergo a full day of comprehensive testing, including a written exam, a driving test, and multiple practical scenario evaluations.

Congratulations to our newest Engineers: Engineer Williamson, Engineer Powell, Engineer Sockol, Engineer O’Leary, Engineer Forte, and Engineer Marty.

We want to wish Officer R. Wiegman the best as he leaves RPDPS for a neighboring agency. Officer R. Wiegman served as a firefighter, a member of our DUI enforcement team, and a committed public safety professional. His decision to move on wasn’t about location — it was about joining an agency that values its employees and provides competitive pay and benefits.

Unfortunately, this is not new for Rohnert Park. For years, experienced officers have continued to leave because the City has not prioritized retention or addressed the pay and benefit disparities we’ve raised repeatedly. Officer R. Wiegman brought four years of experience to this department — experience that cannot be replaced overnight, no matter how quickly a new hire is brought through the door.

Every time we lose a trained, capable officer, the department falls further behind. The City’s belief that new recruits can simply replace seasoned personnel ignores the reality of public safety work. Until the City takes retention seriously, RPDPS will continue to struggle with staffing, and the community will continue to feel the impact of losing experienced officers.

🚒 Rohnert Park Vehicle Fire Response 🚒
Rohnert Park firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire, responding quickly and professionally — the same way they do every single day. Their dedication to protecting this community never changes, no matter the conditions they’re working under.

But the reality behind the scenes hasn’t changed either. Our department remains understaffed and below market in pay and benefits, even as the City continues to expand. Public safety staffing has not kept pace with the growth or the tax revenue that came with it.

Despite the increasing demand, the City has failed to prioritize staffing and retention in both police and fire. And while firefighters continue stepping up to protect this community, the lack of investment from the City puts added pressure on already thin crews. Rohnert Park deserves fully staffed, properly supported public safety — not more development without the personnel needed to protect it.
