Late this am Units from Boones Mill Volunteer Fire/EMS, Rocky Mount Fire Department, Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department and Franklin County Fire & EMS were called to a report of smoke coming out of a residence. Thankfully a neighbor who was out mowing his grass saw the smoke and activated the 911 system. Units quickly arrived on scene and were able to bring the fire under control quickly. We asked the tenant of the house if we could share these photos with you b/c of how important they are. Keeping the doors closed to your other rooms in the house can be the difference between your room being lost or your house being lost. This tenant had the door shut to his bedroom upstairs and it saved the rest of his house from MAJOR fire damage. Share this message with your children and neighbors! We are thankful to report no one was injured in today's fire and all pets were able to get out as well thanks to the brave men and women of Franklin County.

Today our county morns, but we do not morn without the blessed promise that one day we will see our dear brother again. Jeff you have fought the good fight, you have finished your race, welcome home thy good and faithful servant. As I talked to people around the community today I have heard many stories about how Jeff Hodges impacted them. For me he taught the first Vechile Ext. class I took many many years ago and he taught the last one I took also. He taught my first EVOC class and a CPR class and he and his wife tested me on my EMT way back in the day. Jeff was a faithful member of the EMS community as well as a wonderful Bus Supervisor, which is where my son met him. He has touched generations of people all over the state and he will truly be missed. Jeff I’ll see you soon my friend, save me a seat at the table!

Franklin County Units responded to a single car accident this afternoon in the Fork Mountain area of the county. Due to multiple patients and the severity of the accident Multiple units from other areas of the county responded. M8 - Fork Mountain, M7 - Boones Mill, M2 - Rocky Mount, M6 - Snow Creek and M4 Glade Hill along with Fork Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, and Rocky Mount Fire Department, RS - 1 , RS-2, PS-29, COMM 1, FC Animal Control, Franklin County Sheriffs Standing Watch - Office of the Sheriff, Franklin County, Va, and the Virginia State Police as well as an officer from the Virginia Dept of Game. Both 220N and South bound were shut down for an extended period of time while Air Care units were flown in to transport patients.

During incidents such as this we do appreciate the prayers and kindness our community shows us not only as First Responders but as Citizens of this community. We are grateful for your support during difficult times such as these and we ask that you keep all of our First Responders in your prayers. Each day we go out and do our best to serve the citizens and visitors of Franklin County, VA Some days are harder than others and today happens to be one of those days. A special thank you to every single volunteer and career staff that was there today.
