Our mission is to protect, support, and advocate for the animals of Rocky Mount by assisting the local shelter with placement, rescue partnerships, transport, & community support. Rocky Mount Animal Advocates was founded to strengthen support for the Rocky Mount Animal Shelter and help save more lives. Our team works hard behind the scenes with placement, networking, transport, and providing essential supplies to animals in need. Now that we’re officially a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we’re ready to grow — and we’d love for you to be part of it! 💛 Together, we can expand our efforts into the community to keep more pets healthy, loved, and in their homes. 🎃🐾 PET SAFETY ON HALLOWEEN 🐾🎃

Halloween can be fun for us, but all the costumes, candy, strangers, and doorbell ringing can be stressful—or even dangerous—for our pets!

A few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe tonight:

🐶 Keep pets indoors during trick-or-treating when possible.
🍫 Keep chocolate, candy, and anything containing xylitol safely out of reach.
🚪 Watch the door! Nervous or excited pets may try to slip outside.
🏷️ Make sure collars and ID tags are secure and up to date.
👻 Only use costumes that are comfortable and don’t restrict movement, breathing, hearing, or vision.
🛏️ Give pets a quiet, comfortable place away from the excitement if they’re feeling overwhelmed.
🎃 Keep candles, glow sticks, decorations, and electrical cords away from curious paws.

🐾 Bringing your pet trick-or-treating?

Keep them on a secure leash or harness, use reflective or light-up gear so they’re easy to see, avoid crowded areas if they seem nervous, and never let them eat candy or treats found along the way. Watch their body language and head home if they appear frightened, stressed, or tired.

And remember—Halloween may be exciting for us, but your pet doesn’t have to participate to have a happy night. ❤️

🐾 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 🐾

Every face has a story. Every animal deserves a chance.

Some have only been waiting a few days. Others have watched the days turn into weeks, still hoping someone will notice them.

These are just some of the animals waiting at Rocky Mount Animal Services. Each one deserves the chance to leave the shelter behind and find somewhere safe to call home.

That’s why we’re sharing their faces every Wednesday. Because sometimes all it takes is the right person seeing the right animal at the right time.

🐾💜 𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗬 — 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧!

Last Friday, we learned about an injured cat spotted at Sky-Vue. We searched that evening without luck, but thankfully, Derby was caught Monday and brought to the Rocky Mount Animal Shelter, where he was placed in RMAA’s care. ❤️

🩺 Derby has a broken bone near his wrist and a severe infection. The fracture involves the smaller of the two bones, which explains why he can still bear weight. Unfortunately, surgical repair isn’t an option. We’re hopeful he can heal and compensate, but amputation remains a possibility. 💔

And because this poor boy hasn’t been through enough already, he managed to bite his temporary foster! 🫣

Now, we certainly don’t condone biting, but come on, the poor guy is hurting! Can we really blame him for being a little defensive? Aside from that unfortunate incident, he’s been mostly sweet as pie! ❤️

Unfortunately, the bite means Derby must complete a mandatory quarantine, adding boarding expenses to his already growing medical bills.

💜 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗔 𝗙𝗘𝗪 𝗗𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗬?

RMAA is covering his treatment and boarding, and these unexpected expenses are adding up quickly.

Every donation, big or small, helps give Derby the care he needs and the second chance he deserves. This little guy has been through enough, and we’re determined to give him a brighter future! 💜

☀️ It may be 80 degrees in October, but winter will be here before we know it… I think. I hope. Maybe? 😂

Either way, we’re trying to think ahead!

We know not every animal lives in the conditions we wish they did. While we’ll always advocate for better care and living conditions, we also believe in helping animals right where they are, however we can. ❤️

So we’re putting out some feelers early! 🐾

🏠 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲?

We'd love to have some on hand as temperatures start dropping so we can help dogs in our community who may otherwise be left without adequate shelter.

If you have a dog house sitting around collecting dust, please send us a message! Something you no longer need could make a big difference for a dog this winter. ❤️

Another happy ending for one of our sweet kitties! 🥰

We didn’t get a family photo to capture the special moment, but we couldn’t let Squeaky’s adoption go uncelebrated!

This handsome little guy has officially found his forever home, and we’re so excited for him and his new family! 💕

Happy life, Squeaky! We hope your days are filled with love, cuddles, and all the spoiling you deserve! 💜🐾
