An interesting phenomena on some of our Lacinto kale! The evenly spaced water droplets around the leaves aren’t actually dew, they occur in a process called “guttation” and I’ll take you back to biology class to summarize it: 💧🌱💧
Plants normally transpire through stomata on their leaves and at night the stomata of most plants are closed. High moisture levels in the soil overnight can lead to water build up and root pressure in the plant forcing water to be expelled through specialized structures in the leaf tips called hydathodes. Cool as kale right?!

Compost round 2! Groundhog Day may have passed but we are doing the same thing over and over again😄 I know this is Virginia, but short sleeves on February 4th?! Glorious!

This is one of our newer blocks of beds and seeing the progression of our red clay into rich vegetable- growing soil makes all of this shoveling worth it!
