Rockville HELP (aka Rockville FISH) provides emergency assistance to residents of Rockville, MD with food deliveries from our pantry and limited financial assistance, when funds are available. Rockville FISH (Friendly, Immediate, Sympathetic Help) was founded in 1968 by members of Rockville faith communities to address the needs of Rockville residents in emergency situations. Larger government age
ncies assist with long-term problems, but they often have lengthy in-take procedures and are not able to address immediate needs. Rockville HELP, an all-volunteer group, is able to respond quickly and prevent hunger, eviction, or utility disconnection. Calls requesting help are passed on to our food drivers or financial concern officers on the day they're received, and help is provided as soon as possible. Our food drivers pack 3-5 days of groceries at our food pantry (graciously hosted by Centro Cristiano Peniel, and formerly by Twinbrook Baptist Church) and deliver it to clients' homes, providing an especially valuable service to people who don't drive and have trouble accessing the services of other food banks. Financial help is offered, usually up to a maximum of $200, with utilities, rent, security deposits, prescriptions, medical bills, transportation, or storage. When larger amounts are needed, we collaborate with government agencies and other community and faith groups in Rockville and Montgomery County. Groceries can be requested three times in a six-month period, while financial assistance is available once a year.
