As Older Americans Month wraps up, here's a reminder that championing your health doesn't have to mean going it alone.

Across Placer County, Seniors First is here to help older adults take care of themselves in ways that are simple, practical, and meaningful.

A nutritious meal delivered to your door, a safe ride to the doctor, a phone call to our Information and Assistance team when you're not sure where to turn, and a Senior Cafe lunch where you can enjoy a meal and connect with your neighbors.

These aren't extras; they're essentials.

If you or someone you love could benefit, we'd love to hear from you. Call us at (530) 889-9500 or visit seniorsfirst.org.

This Memorial Day, Seniors First honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and selflessness gave us the freedoms and communities we cherish today.

We pause to remember them and to express our deepest gratitude for everything they gave so that others could live freely.

Today, we remember. Today, we are grateful.

May is National Pet Month, and at Seniors First, we know that for many older adults, a pet isn't just a companion, they are family.

Our AniMEALS program delivers fresh pet food right alongside Meals on Wheels, ensuring that homebound seniors in Placer County don't have to choose between their own nutritional needs and caring for the animals that bring them comfort and companionship.

It's one more way we help seniors stay independent, healthy, and connected at home.

May is Older Americans Month, and this year's theme is Champion Your Health.

It's a reminder that healthy aging starts with small, steady choices: staying active, eating well, keeping up with preventive care, and staying connected to the people and community around you.

Here in Placer County, Seniors First helps older adults do exactly that. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals and a daily check-in.

Our transportation program helps seniors get to medical appointments.

Our Senior Cafes bring people together for a healthy lunch and activities like Bingo and wellness events.

Our Information and Assistance team connects families with the resources they need.

Championing your health is easier when you're not doing it alone.

If you know an older adult in Placer County who could use a little support, give us a call at (530) 889-9500.

Carol has been a Meals on Wheels recipient since 2021. She first enrolled because of concerns about COVID exposure, and as her vision declined over time, driving became a safety concern.

What she appreciates most is the simplicity. Her meals arrive ready to go, and if she needs to warm something up, it takes just a minute in the microwave. Then she settles in to enjoy it while watching her favorite TV shows.

During periods when Carol has been hospitalized, her meal service paused and picked right back up when she came home, something she's truly grateful for.

It's a small thing that makes a big difference: a reliable meal, right when she needs it, so she can stay comfortable and independent at home.

We passed our Big Day of Giving goal!

Together, our community raised $24,047 for Seniors First, going $9,047 past our $15,000 goal.

A heartfelt thank you to every donor who showed up for Placer County seniors on May 7.

We also want to send a special thank you to Nugget Market and Roper Food Services, Inc. for their generous matching gifts. Their partnership doubled the impact of so many donations and helped carry us across the finish line.

Every dollar raised means more warm meals at doorsteps, more friendly check-ins, and more neighbors staying independent in the homes they love.

Thank you for making this possible.

Barbara is 103. Michael, her cockatiel, is 41. She's raised him since the beginning, and she says it plainly: "He's my family."

Barbara receives Meals on Wheels through Seniors First, and Michael gets his bird food through our AniMEALS program. It's a small thing that makes a big difference, because for seniors living alone, a pet isn't just company. A pet is the reason the house doesn't feel empty.

When we asked Barbara what she'd say to the people who make this possible, she didn't overthink it. "To the staff, to the volunteers and donors, I just say thank you. Thank you. What better is there to say?"

Today is Big Day of Giving. Your gift helps fund programs like AniMEALS, which makes sure seniors in Placer County never have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding the companion who keeps them going.

The clock is ticking on Big Day of Giving, and there's still time to make a difference for a senior in Placer County.

Every day, your neighbors count on a warm meal at the door, a ride to the doctor, a friendly voice on the phone, and pet food for the companion who makes a quiet house feel like home. Those needs don't stop when today ends.

If you've been thinking about giving, now is the moment.

Every dollar between now and midnight goes toward keeping Placer County seniors independent, connected, and cared for, and thanks to Nugget Market and Roper Food Services, Inc., your gift is matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 combined.

Fifty-five years of showing up for our neighbors, and we're not stopping now. Help us keep going. Donation link in the first comment.

When Patricia broke both her ankles, getting home felt far away.

She was recovering at a local facility, getting stronger every day, but her care team wouldn't clear her to leave without a walker.

She called Seniors First's Information and Assistance program, and that one call changed everything.

Our team connected her with Larry, a volunteer with American Legion Post 84, who delivered a brand-new walker right to her. Her physical therapy team felt confident she was ready, and that Saturday, Patricia went home.

That's what Information and Assistance does. When a senior in Placer County needs help, they make one call, and someone figures it out, whether it's a walker, a resource, or a next step.

Big Day of Giving helps fund programs like this.

When you give, you're making sure that when someone like Patricia picks up the phone, there's someone on the other end who can help. Donation link in the first comment.
