RRVTMA Apprentice of the Month: Nathaniel from Forest City Gear

Nathaniel’s path into the RRVTMA Apprenticeship Program is rooted in both experience and a drive to keep growing. After nearly a decade working as a CNC turning and grinding programmer/setup technician—along with time in a supervisory role—he made the decision to take the next step in his career. In 2023, he joined Forest City Gear as an operator in the gear shaping department, drawn in part by the opportunity to be part of the RRVTMA apprenticeship.

Since enrolling in 2024, Nathaniel has continued to build on his strong foundation—moving from Gear Shaping Technician into a Process Engineer role within FCG’s engineering department. His instructors at Rock Valley College highlight his rare blend of technical ability and strong people skills, a combination that sets him apart both on the shop floor and in the classroom.

Currently on track to graduate in 2028, Nathaniel is focused on developing a deep understanding of gear design and applications—knowledge he’s already applying to real-world manufacturing challenges.

Congratulations, Nathaniel, on being named RRVTMA Apprentice of the Month!
