While you grab some vegetables at our 2nd Annual Plant Giveaway for your home garden, stick around and volunteer with our friends at Veterans Memorial Circle and help them plant 1,000s of flowers around the roundabout.
The big day is this Saturday, so here’s a recap — plus a few new points — of what you need to know:
⏰ Planting starts at 8:30 a.m. Police will be there then, monitoring traffic until 4:30 p.m.
To help plant, you can show up anytime. We have NO ADVANCE REGISTRATION and NO ASSIGNED SHIFTS. Just step up to the green tent at Greenwood Cemetery to sign in. There, you will get tools, a safety vest, and an assignment.
The first volunteers to show up will help plant the flag circle, filling in the background of the already-planted 250 designs.
🪴To make this part run smoother, we will need “popping volunteers” stationed at a table near the sign-in area to carefully pop vincas and petunias out of their packs — so that the volunteers at the circle can focus on planting the flowers without pausing to fuss with their packs.
Once the circle is done, we will be assigning volunteers to the fronts of the walls and to the North Main Street medians.
We will be mulching as we go.
Help out as long as you can. This is a community project. We all pull together to the best of our ability.
❤️ Water and snacks will be provided by the class of young dancers at The West Side Show Room.
❤️ This year, when you sign out, you will get a coupon that will be good for half off the price of a meal at The GOAT Pub and Grill.
❤️ And, as they have done since the year they opened, Plume’s owners again will have iced coffee and Arnold Palmers on their patio.
Every flower planted at Veterans Memorial Circle honors people among us who have served and sacrified.
Join us to do something beautiful for our veterans and military families!
