We eagerly support and promote DAR's missions of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Our chapter is named after the Rogue River, which runs through northern Kent County and empties into the Grand River. The Rogue River is like a ribbon which ties the area’s past to its present. It has historic significance due to the multiple ways the waterway has been used to provide for the inhabit
ants of the region. Just as the Rogue River has served the area throughout history, we hope our chapter will become an integral service organization in our community and beyond. We meet monthly on a Thursday evening in Rockford. The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the country, DAR boasts 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background-who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.
