The Don Wright Memorial Scholarship The Don Wright Memorial Scholarship, celebrating the life of the late Donald R. Don was an excellent student, graduating in the upper 10% of his class.

The Don Wright Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to a qualifying, track & field athlete, who is graduating in the same year from Rock Island Senior High School. Wright, a native of Rock Island Illinois and a 1968 graduate of Rock Island Senior High School, is presented annually to a qualifying, track & field athlete, who is graduating in the same year from Rock Island Senior High School.

He also participated in the football, swimming and track programs. Upon graduating, in lieu of entering college, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served honorably in the 9th Infantry and the 101st Air Borne Division in Vietnam. He was awarded several medals for his valor in that conflict, including the Bronze Star. Don passed away April 12th, 2004 from Agent Orange induced lung cancer from his exposure to that chemical during the war. Don had many good friends and a small group of these friends have established this scholarship fund in his memory. Don’s mother, Polly, was honored by this and left a large portion of her estate to the scholarship fund. Thanks to her generosity, we are able to award a $5,000 scholarship every year.

Rock Island track athlete MarCeisha Jackson was awarded the plaque for winning The Donald Wright Memorial Scholarship during the girls track team banquet on Thursday May 30th, 2019. The scholarship was created in honor of Donald Wright, a 1968 Rock Island graduate who served in the Vietnam War before succumbing to cancer from Agent Orange exposure. The $5,000 scholarship is given annually to a Rock Island senior track athlete.

2019 Don Wright Golf Outing…Register below!

The Don Wright Memorial Scholarship, celebrating the life of the late Donald R. Wright, a native of Rock Island and a 1968 graduate of Rock Island Senior High School, is presented yearly to a qualifying track & field athlete who is graduating from Rock Island Senior High School.

Please join us at 1 P.M. on July 21st, 2019, for the 4th Annual Don Wright Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing at beautiful Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, IL.

Your 4-some entry of $260 will include the following: 2 flight, 4-person scramble to include carts, range balls, contests (long drive, closest to the pin) and catered dinner with beverages at Awards Reception following the golf. You can also purchase “mulligans”, a forward tee “pink ball”, tickets for 2 raffles, as well as enter the “ball in the circle” on a selected par 3 hole.

In addition: Included with your online registration is a 1-year subscription to Golf Digest (a $10 value).
