‼️ WARNING: ANOTHER SAD POST / ANOTHER PSA ‼️

Emotionally, rehabbing is so tough… because you always want every squirrel to survive, thrive, and be wild, but that’s not real life.

Squirrels have it so rough in the wild. They fall victim to birds of prey/raptors, raccoons, domestic cats, and of course, HUMANS.

We got a call about Molly (first photo), who was hit by a car.. her whole head was swollen and her eyes, swollen shut…

Then we got a call about Winston (second photo) who was hit by a car.. not once, but hit TWICE. Hearing that through the phone broke our hearts.. 💔

As always, we want these squirrels to pull through, but a car against a squirrel?? It’s not a fair match. They were buried with their nut for the Rainbow Bridge.

So, PLEASE GIVE ALL WILDLIFE A BRAKE!!! 🛑 🚙 🐿️🦝🐇🦌🐢🦨🛑

Slow down and avoid hitting all wildlife, as best as possible, because they all deserve a break too! 💕

⚠️ WARNING: SAD POST / PSA ⚠️

It’s so hard to make these posts, but they’re important.

The past few weeks have been hard. We’ve had a high number of cases where squirrels - from babies all the way to adults - have been attacked by cats! 😢

When we get a call, we ask a few questions about the squirrel, and one of the things we always ask is if there are cats around the area. Cat saliva carries bacteria that can kill squirrels within 24-48 hours. Treatment with antibiotics must occur ASAP. And if the saliva doesn’t kill the squirrel, sometimes the punctures do 😭

We have Franny and Newton here - both victims of cats. We don’t want to post the intake photos because they’re pretty graphic, but know we treated these babies with antibiotics, pain meds, and did everything we could to save them. Unfortunately, their injuries were too severe and they passed. As always, we buried them with a nut to take with them to the Rainbow Bridge.

If you have cats, please consider keeping them indoors to help protect our wildlife - their saliva also kills birds, mice, and other small mammals.

Something to make you smile today… 🥹

Here’s a video of Darla being released! We had to slow it waaayyyy down because she was so fast!

Darla fell out of the tree (the same tree in the video) and was stunned and in pain. Luckily, her finders heard her fall and brought her to us within 30 minutes! She was given pain meds, rested overnight, and was fully recovered by morning… and SO READY to be released!

What makes this story even sweeter.. Darla is a nursing mom, so we wanted to get her back home ASAP. We’re happy we could reunite Darla back to her babies! 💕🥰 😭

Wild and free in the trees! 🌳

Simon, Roberta, and Percy came to us when homeowners trapped and killed their mother - leaving these babies orphaned 😞

They were around 5 weeks old and pretty “wild”, but our new volunteer, Beth, was ready to take them on as her first litter! She did an incredible job caring for these guys, built a pre-release cage on her land, and was able to release them there - so they could visit every day!

Once they were in the trees, it was obvious they were happy.. and Beth may have shed a tear or two from seeing them having so much fun! 🥹

We’re thrilled Beth had a great experience, and she can’t wait to raise more squirrels! 🐿️

If you’d like to volunteer, please reach out. Additionally, we are planning an orientation on July 18th. We’re still gathering the final details, but please be on the lookout for the orientation post!

Meet Judd! ❤️

Unfortunately, we know nothing about what caused his injury, but these two kids saw a hurt baby squirrel and they said they couldn’t let him die, so they called Nutty By Nature for help! 🥺

The kids showed so much compassion toward this wild baby boy and he is just THE SWEETEST! He has two paralyzed back legs, so like Trudy, we’re going to use the Trager Reflex Response Method with the hope that he gains some mobility in his legs.

He is currently obsessed with:
1. His new mom
2. His formula
3. Holding mom’s hands.. 😭😭😭

Please welcome Judd!

Say hi to this cutie, Abe!

This little guy was being carried by his mom on the roof of a daycare when he accidentally fell 2 stories and smacked the concrete. Poor Abe was bleeding from the nose and had labored breathing. The surrounding people thought he was dead, but he wasn’t! 😮‍💨

He was brought to us for assessment and had a minor head injury, but recovered after a few weeks.

While he’s still pretty skittish around humans (as he should be), he’s a sweet boy who loves drinking his formula! We’re excited for his release later this summer! ❤️
