Punkin’s Purpose is a nonprofit organization created in loving memory of Barbara “Punkin” Ann Love-Garay, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend who passed away on August 9, 2022, at the age of 69 after a short illness. Barbara was known for her warmth, generosity, and deep love for her family and community. She spent her life putting others first and believed in the power of kindness, connection, and community service.
Barbara had a fear of the medical field and often avoided routine check-ups and preventative screenings. Her sudden passing was not only a heartbreaking loss for her family but also a wake-up call about the importance of prioritizing health and wellness, especially in communities where fear or access often create barriers.
Punkin’s Purpose was founded by her daughters to continue her legacy and make a lasting impact in the Rochester community. The organization promotes education, awareness, and access in four key areas:
• Child Abuse Prevention
• Grief and Healing
• Health
• Service to Others
Through community events, partnerships, and outreach efforts, Punkin’s Purpose works to uplift individuals and families by providing support, resources, and spaces for healing. The organization’s signature event, the Annual Health and Wellness Fair at Helen Barrett Montgomery School #50, brings together local agencies, health professionals, and families to promote wellness and strengthen community bonds.
Punkin’s Purpose ensures that Barbara’s life, love, and values continue to shine through acts of service, advocacy, and care.
