Onions are powerful companion plants that help repel pests and support healthier garden growth. But they also perform best when paired with the right neighbors! 🧅

Plant chamomile alongside onions for better tasting onions; plant marigolds beside onions to help reduce pests; plant carrots between beds of onions to keep the soil aerated, and plant dill with onions to help attract beneficial insects to your garden.

Bees do far more than make honey. They play a vital role in pollinating the plants that produce much of the food we eat and help maintain healthy ecosystems. Without them, biodiversity and global food supplies would suffer.

Save the bees, help protect the planet.

Plant native flowers that provide bees with food throughout the year. Avoid harmful pesticides and choose natural, eco-friendly alternatives whenever possible. Support local and sustainable honey producers who use responsible beekeeping practices.

You can also make your outdoor spaces more bee-friendly by adding flowering plants, leaving small water sources for pollinators, and protecting natural habitats. Even a small balcony garden can help.

Most importantly, spread awareness. Encourage others to understand the importance of bees and the role they play in our environment.

Small actions matter. Together, they can create a safer future for these essential pollinators.

This Saturday, May 16th, we will be hosting two clean-ups.

At 9am we will meeting on Lyell Ave across from Wegmans in the parking lot next the former Arby's/Rancho Viejo/Catrina's. (Wrap up at 10:30)

At 10am we will be meeting in front of the Gates Library closest to Elmgrove Rd. (Wrap up at 11:15). We want to be sure the area is clean for our Gates Farmer's Market on Sunday the 17th (10am-1pm in front of the Library).
