We'll be at the Play Pride Social on Friday -- not as the host, but as a resource.

Roanoke City Parks & Rec and are running a great event. Our job is to be in the room for anyone who needs a familiar face, an accessibility conversation, or just someone to walk them through the door.

That's what Play for All does. We show up so more people can.

April 2 wasn’t just another awareness day. It was a reminder of something bigger.

World Autism Awareness Day (should be every day) hits at the core of what we believe at Play for All Foundation.

This isn’t about awareness anymore. Most people have heard the word “autism.” The real question is: are our spaces actually built for everyone?

-Are our parks actually accessible in ways that go beyond ramps?
-Are our programs designed with different sensory, social, and communication needs in mind?
-Are we creating spaces where people feel like they belong, not just like they’re allowed to be there?

>>>>> Because inclusion isn’t a statement. It’s a design choice.

Neurodiversity isn’t something to accommodate after the fact. It’s something to build around from the beginning.
When we do that, we don’t just support autistic individuals. We create stronger, more connected communities for everyone.

At Play for All, this is the work. Designing spaces, programs, and experiences where every person can show up fully and be part of something meaningful.

Every life has value. And that should show up in how we build our communities.

A walk is free. No equipment, no membership, no skill level required. Just you and a park.
That's the kind of play we're here for.

Too often, we treat recreation like a reward.

It isn't.

Recreation is a right.

A World Health Organization review of more than 900 studies found that participation in recreation and cultural activities such as music, arts, sports, and play improves mental health, helps prevent disease, and strengthens overall well-being. This isn't simply leisure. It's public health infrastructure.

Which means unequal access to recreation is a public health failure.

And right now, we are failing. The participation gap between the highest- and lowest-income students has nearly tripled since 1972. Opportunities to participate in sports, arts, and enrichment activities are increasingly determined by family income rather than talent, curiosity, or need.

At Play for All, we take that seriously. Recreation should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, income, zip code, or ability.

The Roanoke Future of Talent Summit presented by is bringing together education, workforce, and industry to close the skills gap in our region.

Here’s contribution to the conversation:
You can’t build a strong talent pipeline without strong communities underneath it. That means kids who have access to programming. Neighborhoods that have a voice in their own development. Families who feel like this region is investing in them — not just in the economy around them.

📣 Community infrastructure and workforce development aren’t separate conversations. They’re the same one.

Glad to be in the room today.

Youth sports shouldn’t cost $6,000 a season.

But for a lot of families in our community, that’s the reality — and if you can’t pay, you don’t play.

We’re not okay with that. That’s the gap we’re closing.

Greenfield Recreation Park is getting an update — and your voice should be in that room.

Play for All exists because intentional recreation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when communities show up. Take a few minutes to fill out Botetourt County’s survey and help shape what this park becomes.

Community is the ultimate love language. 💗

This Galentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the girls, women, mentors, and aunties building the village in Roanoke every single day.

At Play for All Foundation, we believe everyone deserves the chance to play — so we partner across our community to create inclusive, accessible, joyful spaces where girls can connect, grow, and thrive.

Because supporting girls isn’t just a trend.

📢 Proximity doesn’t equal access.

A park down the street doesn’t always mean a child gets to play.

When transportation is limited…
when programs aren’t staffed…
when families are stretched thin…

Kids miss movement.
Families miss connection.
Communities miss opportunity.

➡️ And inequity grows.

So if kids in Roanoke can’t get to play — we bring play to them.

Play for All delivers safe, staffed recreation programs directly into underserved SW VA neighborhoods — removing barriers and creating real access to play.

Because every child — and every person — in the Roanoke Valley deserves more than proximity.

📢They deserve opportunity.
