Project Discovery of Virginia

Project Discovery is designed to stimulate first-generation college bound students through info, encouragement cultural workshops and campus tours.

Project Discovery is a post-secondary access program currently offered through 24 Partner Agencies throughout Virginia in grades 4 to 12. Project Discovery encourages students to stay in and graduate high school and provides resources and tools for students to successfully make the transition to post-secondary education.

Thrive VA students ended the year with a total of 30 workshops in addition to campus tours, field trips and career fairs. Fourteen students participated in the end of year trip to Swader's Sports Park, where students had a blast playing games and eating pizza.

Reflection time is something we're focusing on during the month of August. Take some time this week to reflect challenges faced, learning from them and growing.

WJCC-CAA Alumni LaRhonda King, MSW is a testament to how the Project Discovery program can leave lasting impressions on a person. She began her journey in the Head Start program and continued as a student from 7th to 12th grade. LaRhonda is an Air Force veteran, social worker and a dedicated advocate to her community. For the past three years she has volunteered with Project Discovery, mentoring students and she now serves on the Advisory Board. We thank you for your service, your compassion for the current students and for showing how Project Discovery can make an impact.
