GS 💚 VA State Parks: Your Program Team @ Grayson Highlands

Join your Program Team for Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend at Grayson Highlands State Park for a full day of outdoor adventure, exploration, and hands-on nature fun! Try a hike & nature journaling adventure or participate in a sit-spot activity to observe and record sounds, weather, animals, and more. Learn about native plants through a native seed activity and help pollinators by making seed bombs. Girls can also investigate wetland ecosystems through creek critters exploration and water quality discussions. NOTE: Check-out other VA State Park Girl Scout activities as well as get the free parking pass here.

🤿 Try-Out Scuba in a Local Pool!
Do you want to find out what scuba diving is like? Join the Adventurers for a PADI Discover Scuba® Diving experience and you can try scuba diving for the first time in a local pool. A highly-trained PADI® Professional will provide scuba gear, explain basic scuba diving skills, and answer any questions you may have. In a very short time, you’ll learn basic scuba skills and take your first breaths underwater.

Bridging in the Fall 🌈🪽💚
In Girl Scouts, “Bridging” is a special ceremony that marks a girl’s transition from one program level to the next (from Daisy to Brownie, from Brownie to Junior, etc.). This ceremony signifies her achievements and readiness for new adventures and responsibility. Most troops bridge in May or June, others wait until September prior to the new Girl Scouting year. It can be simple or elaborate. Here are the basics:

🚩 Flag or opening ceremony
📜 Reciting the Girl Scout Promise & Law
🌉 Crossing a bridge or stage
🤝 Girl Scout handshake
🏅 Presentation of certificates, patches, and other awards
⭕ Ending ceremony with friendship circle and/or singing a Girl Scout song
🍪 Refreshments
📸 Sharing memories of last year
🚀 Sharing plans for the upcoming year

👏 And that's a wrap on the Girl Scouts National Convention!
Virginia Skyline Council was proudly represented by an incredible delegation. Our National Delegates, Layla Lopez (Rockburg Girl Scout), CEO Nikki Williams, and Board President Larry Wiese, embraced every opportunity this experience offered. They came prepared, studied the issues, engaged in meaningful discussions, and represented the girls of Virginia Skyline Council with confidence, enthusiasm, and heart.

The 58th National Council Session and Girls Unite event brought our Movement together for a powerful week of governance, connection, celebration, and inspiration. From the delegate discussions to great guest speakers to wonderful workshops to fun with new/old friends, the week reflected the breadth of our Movement and the global sisterhood we are proud to be part of. Girl Scouts of the USA will release a summary of convention business (proposals/discussion topics) at the end of August which we will share here.

Mark your calendars for the 59th Girl Scouts Convention that will take place July 23-28, 2029, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
