In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 830+ children in Roanoke County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

We're so excited to have them join us in celebrating literacy, learning, and community. Be sure to stop by this Saturday from 9 to 1 and register your children, ages birth to 5, for free book from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The Imagination Library of Roanoke County is happy to announce that the monthly books will be available in an English/Spanish bilingual collection starting in August. If you are already registered and would like to change, please direct message us with your child's name and birthdate, and we will make that change for you.

La Biblioteca de la Imaginación del Condado de Roanoke se complace en anunciar que los libros mensuales estarán disponibles en una colección bilingüe en inglés/español a partir de agosto. Si ya está registrado y le gustaría cambiarlo, envíenos un mensaje directo con el nombre y la fecha de nacimiento de su hijo y podremos realizar el cambio por usted.

We have fantastic news to share! The Dolly Parton Imagination Library had some great things to share today!
* In the United States, the program continues to grow at an incredible pace. Today, 1 in 6 children under the age of five receives an Imagination Library book in the mail each month.

*The bilingual English/Spanish option will launch on August 4, 2026 across the United States. New registrants will be offered the option to enroll in the core English program or the fully bilingual English-Spanish program. Existing families can also switch over within the parent login area, or you can notify us, and we can make the switch for you.
