Weekly horse practices start next Monday!

All practice topics are subject to change based on volunteers, but this is our plan. We will keep the horse project page updated with any changes.

Youth are welcome to come to join our organized instruction or simply ride on their own. Both arenas will be available for riding. Scheduled practice topics take precedence over open riding, so if you choose to ride on your own, understand that you may be asked to move to a different arena or keep to a particular space.

Riders must be registered 4-H members or leaders. Safe riding practices are imperative and any unsafe behavior will not be tolerated. Safety assessments are due June 15 for all horse/rider combinations and can be done at Monday practices through that date.

If there are weather concerns that may force cancellation, they will be shared on the horse project page.

Horse project leaders-we need your help to put on our summer riding practices! These are a huge part about how our county is trying to help young riders grow with their horses. We currently have quite a few nights not covered by a leader and we'd hate to have to cancel those practices because we don't have anyone to run them. You don't need to be an expert, just knowledgeable about horses & safety and be willing to work with kids of a variety of levels (our practice participants are often fairly new beginners). If you are currently signed up as a leader, or would be willing to get signed up, fill out this form and let us know what you'd be able to help with!

Our summer horse practices start on May 18 and run every Monday from 6-8pm through July 13. We need at least one leader signed up to run the practice weekly, but we will gladly take extra volunteers. Each week we will schedule 1-2 practice topics, with the intent of covering most of the class types....
