This Thursday we will be holding a workshop discussing Turtle Excluder Devices in the Summer Flounder Fishery. Did you know that TEDs are already required in the fluke fishery south of Cape Charles? NOAA- Protected resources has multiple measures under consideration for TEDs and one of them is to raise the line requiring TEDs Northward possibly off Long Island or Cape Cod due to expanding turtle populations. Also, get an update about recent research utilizing a new cable grid design to exclude turtles in the squid fishery. Commercial Fishing Industry participation needed. We will be in person at 4 locations or call in virtually to document your input.

The CCE Fisheries Team is looking to buy a trailer for transporting derelict lobster traps. If you know anyone willing to sell or donate one to the program, please reach out! The trailer will support our marine debris removal efforts in the Long Island Sound.

The trailer would need to be roughly 7x14 and have papers for registration. Email Alex at [email protected] if you have any suggestions.
