VA Trappers Association

VA Trappers Association Virginia Trappers Association promotes trapping and furbearer management best practices. The Virginia Trappers Association (VTA) was founded in 1966.

The association is part of the national effort to promote furbearer management, trapping best practices and protects Americans' trapping heritage throughout the United States. The mission of the Virginia Trappers Association is to promote the interests of trappers and sportsmen and promote and use trapping best practices in furbearer management. Membership and education are the primary focus areas

for this organization. Healthy membership keeps the Association moving forward with its educational and political efforts. Virginia Trappers Association education programs are a two-track system. The organization provides introductory trapper training courses for new trappers to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to ethically and safely start their trapping pursuits. These introductory courses are VTAs primary outreach to Commonwealth communities and our youth. The Association also provides advanced education for seasoned trappers via seminars and workshops during district meetings to introduce new trapping technologies, trapping best practices and improve furbearer management skills.

Fellow Trappers,

These 3 items will be at the VTA Booth in the Kulhman Center for you to look over. They will be part of the 67th NTA Annual Rendezvous auction in Richmond, IN.

A Slice of Virginia Box Elder

Donated by Larry & Sandy Cochran of Cochran’s Lumber on behalf of the Virginia Trappers Association.

In Northwestern part of Virginia, the small town of Berryville, sits nestled in the northern Shenandoah Valley. A large Box Elder tree was removed from an old fence row, root, and all. They pressure washed it, sliced it in three-inch-thick chunks, Kiln dried it, planed down to its current thickness. injected with epoxy resin to prevent further splitting. Then the engraving was completed by Larry’s grandson on large digital CNC machine in their custom millwork shop. This Box Elder is some of the prettiest wood around, known for its unique creamy-white to vanilla tones and striking, fungal-stained red-to-pink streaks, absolutely the best.
