✊🏽 Freedom is a Labor Movement Issue
While we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, we recognize that July 4th freed the land, but Juneteenth FREED the people!
The end of chattel slavery marks the foundational struggle against the ultimate exploitation of Black free labor. Yet, the fight is far from over. As we continue to battle the modern remnants of slavery in southern states, we must confront systemic tools designed to oppress and suppress Black and minority workers:
🚫 Right-to-Work Laws: Modern-day policies built to weaken collective bargaining and diminish worker power.
📜 Modern “Black Codes”: Legislative tactics explicitly engineered to suppress minority labor advancement and voting rights.
🛑 Wage Theft: The ongoing, illegal exploitation of working-class communities that robs families of their hard-earned livelihood.
True freedom demands economic justice, safe workplaces, and the unyielding right to organize. Organized labor must continue to uplift Juneteenth—not just as a moment in history, but as an active, ongoing movement for dignity and equity.
