February was all about pioneering at Troop 1893. Over three meetings we practiced our knots, learned our lashings, and then built a structure using only wooden poles and rope. Super cool! We’re looking forward to using these skills on our March campout in a patrol competition.

A whole bunch of scouts braved the elements for HOVC’s Winter Camp in January. We ate super well thanks to our tremendous support team, did all the camping things, and earned a pile of merit badges along the way. We even saw some snow. Can’t wait for Winter Camp 2027!

The National Museum of the United States Army was our destination on the first Saturday of December. It’s a great museum and highly recommended. The simulator for humanitarian logistics support was a hit!

November wrapped up with our annual day of service. We cleaned up the yards of some families that needed just a little extra help with their leaves. Thank you to all of our scouts, parents, and alumni who offered their Saturday morning in the supoort of others.

Troop 1893 backpacked 12 miles last weekend in beautiful conditions. The view from Hightop did not disappoint and we saw a snake, heard owls, and found lots of s**t. Great weekend!

In the background of all this fun, several scouts have been hard at work completing their Eagle Scout requirements. Congratulations to Aaron and Evan for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. James and Wesley should be there soon.

The scouting community is worldwide! In August, Troop 1893 was invited to spend an evening with a troop from Rugby, England during their trip to the U.S. We demonstrated Dutch oven cooking techniques, made apple crisps, and learned all about scouting in England. Such a cool opportunity to learn about, and welcome, others.
