Contra Costa AAPI Advocacy Coalition We are a group of Asian American Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) individuals and allies who have come tog

Fiscally sponsored by and in partnership with Able Community Development Foundation

WE ARE A MOVEMENT. We are Contra Costa county's first cross-sector, multidisciplinary, and multicultural coalition made up of community members, nonprofit leaders, and county staff who collectively speak more than 16 different languages, in more than 18 years. We work at grassroots and systems levels to accomplis

h our goals and vision. We began organizing to respond to the unmet needs of our community during COVID. We stepped up because no one else would and we refused to leave our struggling AAPI communities behind during the pandemic. We moved, got things done, and before we knew it we created an amazing coalition of people who come together to build up and strengthen resources and opportunities for AAPI and all Contra Costa community members.

Hello Community!

Happy Sunday. Once again - I know I’m am the worst at regular updates. As it with most of us with grassroots advocacy blood - I tend to hyper focus on achieving and accomplishing the work before talking about the work. Yet trophies are being won as we speak in different ways. I want to share with you all these pictures from the previous Contra Costa Together Summit back in April. I have been serving on the Stewardship Team with CACHI since the beginning and was asked to facilitate the discussion on youth engagement strategies. I made it a priority to share the stage with my students as co- speakers and fellow experts - so they can take this tangible experience with them to build thier professional skill sets, portfolio, and resumes and give them footing to continue climbing upwards. They were really nervous, but they showed up anyways and pulled through. We had a great circle of people who were really engaged and it was evident everyone who chose this circle was very passionate about the well being of youth.

Stay tuned - more post to come from the last year

Hello Community, I come with good news!

Our Contra Costa Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition has been tentatively awarded a grant for Community Health Worker training and certification so informal community workers can bill for hours. We will then organize and collaborate with this cohort of CHWs to research and design a program providing non-clinical, community based, community centered healing practices for Southeast Asian refugee immigrant communities. This project is extremely near and dear to my heart. Children of immigrants and refugees will know the experience of providing informal unpaid care, support, and navigation to our traumatized families and communities. Through this project we hope to combine economic and workforce development justice, community wellness, and behavioral wellness for our disadvantaged communities.

Thank you to my team for pulling this together so quickly

It’s been an intense 6 months of planning but through a collaboration with Contra Costa Health, Employment and Human Services, County Board of Supervisors, local nonprofits, and grassroots community members we successfully accomplished history. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the production, writing, and hosting of the FIRST live celebration honoring AANHPI Heritage Month in Contra Costa history while wearing my traditional Viet dress. Thank you team and onward we go! Special thanks to: Contra Costa Employment and Human Services NAMI Rewire Community Contra Costa Contra Costa Health John Gioia Contra Costa County Supervisor Ken Carlson and more!
