The REGENERATION PROCESS continues, and weโ€™re thrilled to announce the launch of The ANCHOR PROJECT on Friday, June 12th from 5-7p.m. at Townsend Community Center, Inc., 300 N. 10th St.! โš“๐Ÿ’™

In partnership with local organizations, businesses, and community residents, Townsend Community Center, Inc. is introducing this powerful pilot initiative designed to support the mental health and overall well-being of low-to-moderate income, at-risk young men ages 13โ€“19. The ANCHOR PROJECT is partly funded by Reid Health, and we sincerely appreciate them for seeing our vision and recognizing the need for this important work.

What makes The ANCHOR PROJECT special?
โœ”๏ธ Bi-weekly group sessions for encouragement, growth, and guidance
โœ”๏ธ Dedicated mentors providing one-on-one support when needed
โœ”๏ธ A safe, nurturing environment built for healing, learning, and connection

This collaborative effort is all about creating lasting change for young men facing serious challenges in our community. By working together with participants, parents, teachers, and community leaders, weโ€™re helping young men build resilience, access mental and physical health resources, and grow in their understanding of mental wellness.

At Townsend Community Center, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive. The ANCHOR PROJECT reflects our deep commitment to mental health, wellness, educational excellence, and holistic youth development. Call 317.383.0155 for more information & to register for the ANCHOR PROJECT.

Together, we can empower these young men, strengthen our community, and help break the cycle of generational poverty. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’™

Here at Townsend Community Center, we encourage children in our Harambee program to face fears and try new things! Thanks to our friends at the Joseph Moore Museum at Earlham College, the kids had a wonderful opportunity to meet a friendly snake and learn about all the other cool things at JMM, including the mummy! We're so proud of them for exploring new educational adventures with boldness!

And just as a gentle reminder, please fill out the survey linked on our FB page by the end of the week! We need your help planning for Townsend's future, and it won't take more than two minutes!!

We are grateful for the opportunity to share about our mission, talk about how we help to build healthy lifestyles, and how to get involved in this work. Part of our Student With a Purpose (SWP) program is the Youth Drug Education and Prevention (YDEPP) curriculum. We are so appreciative that Mr. Kenneth Tevis shared his story with us, reflecting on his past choices and the impact they had on his family. It was powerful to hear how their faith carried them through those challenges.

Seated is Mrs. Edith Tevis, his mother. Standing from left to right are Nathaniel Black (SWP student), Mrs. Erica Tevis (Kennethโ€™s wife), Mr. Kenneth Tevis, Dr. Ellen Mabry (SWP facilitator), Dr. Lucinda Wright (SWP facilitator), and Jeremiah Atkinson (SWP student).
