Boggs spent her life building systems that center people—not performance. Her words call us back to a truth that systems too often forget: care must be co-created, not prescribed. 🙏🏿

As funding is stripped from the very solutions communities have built, we stay grounded in this truth: local wisdom isn’t optional—it’s essential infrastructure.

It must be designed with real people—and their realities—at the center. 💫

After three semesters of deep reflection, learning, and community building, Anais officially completed the Advanced Youth Development Certificate at the VCU Mary & Frances Youth Center—and she’s bringing that wisdom right back to The Hive. 👀

I walked in hoping to refine the skills I already had, but I left with so much more: a better understanding of trauma-informed practices, new tools to manage my own biases, and a deeper sense of how to leverage my strengths to better support young people. Juneteenth isn’t just a historical marker—it’s a reflection of where we've been, how far we've come, and the freedom still being fought for.

Our mission is to uplift Black joy as a form of resistance, rest, and renewal. But we also pause to remember the deeper truth behind this day: freedom was delayed, and liberation remains a collective responsibility.

As we celebrate, we also commit—to telling the full story, holding space for the struggle, and building toward a future rooted in and care.

After years of thoughtful, youth-centered leadership, Kim Young is transitioning out of her role as The Hive’s Program Director. Her legacy lives on in the relationships built, systems strengthened, and unwavering care she brought to our community.

Seasons of change carry both reflection and renewal.

As we honor Kim’s impact, we also welcome Kristin Lennox into her new role as our Youth Transformation Agency Director. This position will guide the strategic direction of the Youth Transformation Agency while leveraging partnerships, increasing The Hive's visibility in the community, and helping us imagine how we transition our work into The Hive Campus.

Change doesn’t happen overnight. But with each new step, we stay rooted in what matters: our commitment to young people and those who walk with us.
