Richmond Heights Local Schools proposes earned income, property taxes in levy
Richmond Heights Local School district reveals smaller increase in earned income, property taxes in levy

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - After their initial levy failed in early March, a local school district is hoping to reintroduce the same issue with updated terms.
The Richmond Heights Local Schools district is reintroducing their past levy that failed back in the spring. This time around, they’re lowering the proposed property tax mill increase from 14 mills to 3.25 mills with a 1.25% increase on Earned Income Tax.
“We connected with our community right after the March election and we hosted 3 community meetings throughout the summer,” Superintendent Dr. Marnisha Brown said. “⅔ of them were livestreamed and we heard from the community what they wanted out of their school.”
According to Superintendent Dr. Marnisha Brown, the main issues with the elementary building stem from a water main break that occurred a few years ago.
“It destroyed not only the physical space, but it also destroyed a lot of the instructional materials,” Dr. Brown said. “What we have seen is that when we have very harsh winters, our elementary school does suffer.”
The levy’s proposed increase on Earned Income Tax would not affect any recipients of social security benefits or disability.
