The Richland Concert Association welcomes clarinetist Abbey Atwater for her first performance with RCA!
Abbey Atwater is a Chicago-based clarinetist originally from Waukesha, WI. She began playing clarinet at age eleven and has had many significant musical accomplishments. She has advanced to the semi-final rounds in national clarinet auditions held by the Hartford Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, and Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Solo performances include Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino with the Waukesha Area Symphonic Band and Michael Daugherty’s Brooklyn Bridge with the Lawrence University Wind Ensemble. Abbey was also twice named as a finalist in Lawrence University’s Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and was a runner-up in Temple University’s Student Soloist Competition. She has attended acclaimed music festivals including the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy, Monteux School and Music Festival, and National Music Festival. Abbey has performed with many ensembles in the Midwest and Philadelphia regions, including the LaCrosse Symphony, Wisconsin Philharmonic, Wheaton Municipal Band, Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, and Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony. Additionally, Abbey has performed in master classes for renowned artists such as Julian Bliss, David Shifrin, Stephen Williamson, John Yeh, and Imani Winds. A graduate of Temple University, Abbey completed her M.M. studying under Paul Demers of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She previously received her B.M. from Lawrence University where she majored in clarinet performance, studying with David Bell, and minored in psychology and woodwind pedagogy. Previous teachers have also included Dan Roberdeau, Orlando Pimentel, and Rose Sperrazza.
