We’ve received a few questions lately, and I wanted to take a moment to address them.

The decision to close PAWS was not made lightly or suddenly. It’s something we’ve been thoughtfully discussing and exploring for most of the year. The timing was intentional — by the time we met in July, we knew we wanted to spend down the funds we had and close our chapter knowing we’ve helped literally thousands of animals over the years. 🐾 This plan allowed us to ensure that we would never be in a position where we issued certificates to families and didn't have the funds to cover them.

We continued accepting applications right up until the day of our announcement, and as of now, there is currently about $15,000 worth of PAWS certificates hanging out there waiting to be redeemed as often appointments are booked weeks or months out.

Please know that every single dollar ever donated — including in these past few months — has gone directly toward our mission. If any funds remain in the new year from certificates that aren’t redeemed, our plan is to donate the balance to local animal rescue groups so they can continue the work of spaying and neutering pets in their care.

If you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to send us a message. I'm willing to bet there are a few of us would be more than happy to serve as a sounding board if anyone is interested in picking up the torch and starting their own spay/neuter assistance program.

In the meantime, we kindly ask that everyone approach this transition with understanding and compassion — as the saying goes, if you don’t have anything kind to say, it’s best to say nothing at all. 💜

Thank you for your understanding, support, and the love you’ve shown PAWS and the animals we’ve been able to help. ❤️

💛 Thank You for 19 Wonderful Years 💛

After 19 years of helping our community spay and neuter their beloved pets, the Barron County PAWS program is coming to an end. No further applications are being accepted.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, supporters, and volunteers, we’ve helped thousands of families get their pets fixed—preventing countless unwanted litters and improving the lives of animals across our community. 🐾

As our volunteer team has shrunken over the years (and none of us are getting any younger!), we’ve found it harder to continue the fundraising efforts needed to keep our program running. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, we are deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, shared our posts, and helped spread the word. You’ve made a real difference. ❤️

Even though this chapter is closing, we hope you’ll continue to support local animal welfare efforts and help keep the spirit of spay/neuter alive.

🐶🐱 With gratitude,
The PAWS Board
