Rest in peace Roux (formerly known as Maggie) ❤️ This sweet girl unexpectedly crossed the rainbow bridge recently. Fishtails helped save her this summer when she was found in Fishtown in need of lifesaving care. Many members of the community came together to help her. She was adopted by her foster Jessica, who adored her. Jessica wrote the below in her memory:
“Roux was such a special kitty. She was the sweetest, usually so quiet, until you went to pet her—and then she’d let out the loudest, cutest meows. Over time, we came to believe she was deaf, which made her even more unique. She loved getting lots of pets and cuddles, especially from my five-year-old son, who always made sure she was happy and comfortable.
One of our favorite memories of Roux happened one night when we were taking out the trash. We live on the second floor, above a store on Fabric Row, and we usually leave our apartment door cracked during trips outside. Since Roux only had three legs and usually moved very slowly, we didn’t think she’d go far.
After making two trips, we came back and didn’t see her near the door. We searched everywhere in the house and even called for her (before realizing she was deaf), but no sign of her. Then, we checked the hallway and eventually went upstairs—and there she was, lounging by our landlady’s door as if nothing had happened. She had climbed a whole flight of stairs and must have run to get there so quickly! She had us believing she could barely move fast, but clearly, she was keeping that a secret.
We later caught her running a few more times and realized she could definitely move quickly when she wanted to. Roux had such a spunky personality, and we hope we gave her a beautiful life filled with love.“
