Is Maverick a leggy beagle? A compact hound? A mystery that science may never fully solve? What we do know is that he’s a sweet 37-pound senior gentleman with excellent house manners, a love of car rides, and lots of enthusiasm for walks.

Maverick enjoys backyard sunbathing, easy hikes, and spending time with his people. He sleeps through the night, settles nicely at home, and would be happiest in a lightly active household with a fenced yard, a comfy couch, and your attention.

He gets along great with his canine foster brother and would be happy to share his home with another dog. We don’t yet know his opinions about cats or children.

Every family has someone who notices everything. Maverick has already volunteered for the position. If a dog appears anywhere within visual range, he considers it only polite to say hello. And, as a hound, he can also be vocal when left alone, so he's not made for apartment living.

Think Maverick might be your kind of guy? We’d love to hear from you.

These 23 dogs are now home.

Some arrived scared, undersocialized, sick, or simply unsure what a normal dog life was supposed to look like. Now they’re stretched out on couches, supervising kitchens, and are quietly in charge of their new homes and the people in them.

We appreciate every foster, adopter, volunteer, donor, transporter, veterinarian, and supporter who helped them along the way. Rescue work involves an incredible number of people, group texts, paper towels, and patience.

We're really happy for these dogs and grateful to all of you for helping Peppertree keep saying yes.

Just look at that smile! Paisley seems pretty happy to have gone from the streets to the sheets.

This darling dog just joined Peppertree after being found as a local stray and seems very pleased with her upgrade from outdoor life.

Right now, Paisley is settling into her foster home, getting vetted, and decompressing. Her foster dad says she's enjoying her food and walks. Paisley will become available for adoption after we learn more about her personality and assess the best home environment for her.

Based on that grin, we'd say Paisley is feeling genuinely optimistic about her next chapter. Welcome to Peppertree, Paisley.

Trippy thinks tug toys are fun, but tugging on heartstrings is his real superpower.

This sweet four-year-old cocker spaniel mix rides beautifully in the car, knows basic commands, and is housebroken on a schedule. His permanent head tilt from vestibular disease only adds to his charm.

Trippy's other superpower is being an excellent quiet companion. He would love a calm, adult-only home with someone willing to go at his pace.

Apply to meet Trippy and see if his superpowers are the right fit for your home. His adoption fee has been sponsored by a friend of Peppertree.

Let’s talk about one of the biggest reasons adoption applications get denied: the vet check.

As part of the adoption process, we ask applicants for permission to contact their veterinarian. Reputable rescues like Peppertree do this to help ensure current and past pets have received consistent veterinary care.

We’re not looking for perfection, but we do look for a pattern of responsible care. Current rabies and distemper/parvo vaccines, heartworm prevention, and spayed/neutered dogs matter to us because these pups have already been let down once. And we recognize that some dogs may have legitimate medical reasons to remain unaltered.

Rabies vaccination is required by law and protects both pets and people. Distemper and parvo are highly contagious diseases that spread quickly and are often fatal, especially for puppies and vulnerable dogs. These are serious, preventable illnesses.

These basics are part of responsible pet ownership, and they matter because prevention is always kinder than treatment.

We know vet checks can feel personal, but every decision we make is centered around the long-term well-being and safety of our dogs. They deserve homes prepared to care for them for the rest of their lives, and we appreciate adopters who are comfortable allowing their veterinarian to speak with us.

What's your dog doing to beat the heat?

Twyla has been parked near the A/C vent and catching up on Animal Planet. And while it's been great to have time to chill, Twyla can't wait to get back outside to play fetch and frisbee.

We'd love to see your dog's summer survival strategy. Share a photo below.

One of the best parts of rescue work is seeing Peppertree dogs settle into happy lives and realizing their families don’t just disappear after adoption day. They come back to visit, support events, and remind us that the Peppertree alumni community is full of unusually thoughtful people.

On Friday night, Peppertree alum Ash and his mom represented us at the Bethlehem Walk & Roll Fest. Ash was a great Peppertree ambassador, happily greeting small children on bikes and charming everyone.

Then Bowie's adopter also stopped by to say hello and surprised us with a beautiful hand-carved golden retriever featuring the Peppertree name. Bowie’s dad made it himself, and the craftsmanship is incredible. We’ll be honored to display it at our adoption clinics and other events.

For over 26 years, Peppertree adopters, volunteers, fosters, and supporters have continued showing up for our dogs and for each other. We really do think our alumni community is the best!

Chipp and Myles are ready for the weekend: a little sunshine, a comfortable blanket, and nowhere they need to be.

These bonded Chihuahua mixes are 12+ years old, 11 and 12 pounds, and think a good day includes lap time, short walks, and keeping things pleasantly uncomplicated. Quiet, mellow, and easy keepers, they're housebroken with access to a potty pad at night, get along well with other dogs, and ride nicely in the car.

A friend of Peppertree has sponsored one adoption fee, so you get twice the companionship for one adoption fee.

If Chipp and Myles sound like your kind of dogs, we'd love to tell you more. Apply to meet them.

Maarten recently came to Peppertree after being abandoned. Getting him safely into care took time, patience, and collaboration between Peppertree and a local shelter. Rescue work isn't always simple behind the scenes.

But this part is simple: Maarten is now safe, and at this stage, our goal is comfort.

He’s busy getting pampered and enjoys sunbeam naps, backyard strolls, and shadowing his foster mom. She reports that he’s a quirky old soul who’s quietly in charge. She recently caught him trying to steal a piece of pepperoni — and joked that while his eyesight might not be great, his nose still works just fine.

Most importantly, he’s getting the dignity of being loved and protected for whatever time remains.

Maarten will stay with his experienced Peppertree foster mom as a fospice dog, where the goal is straightforward: keep him safe and comfortable, and meet him where he is at this stage of life.

Not every story is about starting over. Some are about making the time they have left a little gentler. This side of the work rarely gets the spotlight, but it matters just as much. We’re very grateful to the local rescue community that banded together to get Maarten here.

Milo made his Pet Connection debut with Steve Caporizzo and handled it like a seasoned professional. Calm, friendly, and completely unfazed by the lights and camera, he settled right in and charmed everyone he met.

Apply if you'd like to meet this handsome senior.
