The Great Basin Herpetological Society is dedicated to educate the general public about the proper care, maintenance and breeding of reptiles and amphibians who are frequently misunderstood. We promote the conservation of all wildlife and encourage the cooperation between amateur and professional herpetologists in the Northern Nevada area.

The closer you look, the more beauty there is to discover. These are the ventral scales of a Desert Spiny Lizard (Sceloporous magister) at 5x magnification. I gain a whole new level of appreciation for a species or individual when I view it under high magnification and the photo opportunities are seemingly endless!
