Reno Video Game Symphony

Reno Video Game Symphony The Reno Video Game Symphony is a nonprofit, educational band program that uses video game soundtrack

The Reno Video Game Symphony is a unique band program focused on educating: educating its members through rehearsal, educating the community through performance, and educating the world through collaboration. Our group is a collection of RVGS-sanctioned ensembles that focus entirely on performing the ideas found in video games. The music is arranged by members of RVGS specifically for each ensemble. Our ensembles are always changing due to our open policy for members to create their own groups to perform with our program.

It's one of our favorite times of year: season start! Will you grab a friend and come join us on October 3? Dust off that horn, pluck those strings, and la la la your way over next Saturday! We can't wait to see new and old faces alike.

Happy July 1! Instead of your usual Member of the Month post, we're going to feature ourselves this month! Did you know RVGS turns 15 in August?! To commemorate such a huge milestone, we're putting together the first of what will hopefully become a fun, annual event for our community: Press Play: Community Music Day!

What is Press Play: Community Music Day?

It's a one-day event filled with camaraderie, music, education, and fun! Participants will start their day running through the music in the large group, break off into smaller sectionals to workshop with their sections, and then come back together for a "dress rehearsal" of sorts before we open the doors for a free public concert! Schedule will vary based on the ensemble(s) you plan to participate in, but that is the basic idea.

For more information and to register, please check out our event or our registration link. We can't wait to make music with you!

Can you believe it's June already? After an action-packed May, I think we're all ready for a little R&R - and to see who our June MOTM is! This month, we're featuring clarinet superstar, Adrie! Since joining in 2023, Adrie has been a foundational part of our clarinet section. Always willing to give that hard line a try or to project some beautiful melodies, it's been a pleasure having her with us! Read on for more about Adrie. :)

Approximately when did you join RVGS?
Fall 2023

What is your favorite thing about playing with us?
My favorite thing about performing with the Reno Video Game Symphony is the accessibility and range of people that join and play together. This is a group where every person belongs and feels supported. It is so wonderful how the music really meets you where you are as a musician and also gives you opportunities to grow as a musician. It is refreshing to come together each Saturday and perform music that connects us all in a real way. RVGS is a space where you can fully cherish the nostalgia of gaming and genuinely grow as a player - which is really cool.

What is your favorite RVGS memory?
One of my favorite memories from RVGS is all of the laughs and growth shared in the clarinet section during rehearsal. We are a tiny section, but the folks that have joined over the past few seasons make every rehearsal a good time to be had, and the encouragement that we show each other makes it something to look forward to every Saturday. And naturally, our weekly tuning note is A honorable mention!

Anything you'd like to add?
Really looking forward to another great season. It's a beautiful thing to see how the group grows with each season and the phenomenal group of folks that lead this group and put in the good work to create this very special space for musicians of all skills and backgrounds. Really thankful for everything you guys do! Included a few pictures of my daughter, Nyx, so you all can admire her as much as I do.
