(editors note: Larry was a member of First Congregational Church, Reno, not Sparks UMC. The print version of story was corrected but obviously the video could not be)

The Reno-Sparks CROP Hunger Walk is named in memory of Rita Jeffres, but this year there's someone else to remember.

The weather for our 34th annual CROP Hunger Walk this past Sunday was beautiful, even if it was a little windy.
About 75 walkers and helpers attended, including about 25 folks “Walking for Larry”. Larry Hansmeier was an avid supporter of CROP Walks, both in Reno-Sparks and his previous home in Washington. Larry passed in July and his family chose to honor him by walking, some coming from as far away as Massachusetts.
Our preliminary total is $12,558 with additional funds expected to be turned when we count on October 30th. Thank you for those that came out to support us.

This Sunday! Thanks KTVN 2 for the publicity.

Reno-Sparks CROP Hunger Walk co-leaders Sherry and Judi recently visited with Lisa Shaffer, Development Director of Eddy House. Eddy House is a daytime drop-in center and overnight shelter for homeless, runaway, foster, and other at-risk youth ages 18-24. Additionally, Eddy House provides vital life skills classes, workforce development, healthcare assistance, counseling, and more.
Lisa gave us a tour of the campus, including the soon to be open TLC36 Transitional Living Community, a 36-unit affordable studio apartment complex that offers young adults up to two years of stable housing, complete with wraparound support like job training, life skills, and counseling.
Eddy House is one of the local recipients of this year’s (and several past years) CROP Walk fundraiser, taking place Oct 19th. We encourage supporters of Eddy House to form a walk team. For more information call 775 530 1785 or email [email protected]
