Here’s a beautiful Five-lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus) I spotted out enjoying the sunshine today! ☀️ These skinks are common across the Southeast and are often seen darting through leaf litter or basking on warm surfaces. The bright blue tail you see here is typical of juveniles and younger adults—it’s used to draw a predator’s attention away from the body, giving the skink a better chance to escape.
