🏆Traveling Trophy Award🏆

Please join us in celebrating Rhiannon Manicke, this year’s Traveling Trophy Award recipient! Earlier this year, Rhi earned her Swing Bed Management Certification, a specialty credential focused on managing transitional care programs that allow patients to receive skilled nursing and rehab services right here in our facility after a hospital stay. This certification covers everything from Medicare regulations and care coordination to documentation, reimbursement, and quality metrics for swing bed programs. It takes dedication, clinical knowledge, and a strong understanding of hospital operations to complete.

Rh’s achievement is already making a difference. Her expertise helps ensure our patients can heal close to home with continuity of care, which our community deeply values. For the district, her leadership in swing bed management has had a very positive financial impact by strengthening program compliance, improving patient outcomes, and supporting appropriate reimbursement.

Rhi is a true asset to our district and the patients we serve. Her commitment to advanced learning and patient-centered care reflects the very best of our team.

Congratulations, Rhi! 🎉🏆

Dunes Family Health Care welcomes Shynar Johnson, PA-C!

Please join us in welcoming Shynar Johnson, PA-C to DFHC. Shynar was born and raised in Kazakhstan, where her interest in medicine began early in life. She watched her mother care for their community as the only primary care provider in their hometown, and that experience inspired her passion for serving rural and underserved populations.

She graduated from Karaganda Medical University with both a bachelor’s degree and a doctoral degree in General Medicine. During her training, she spent time at Taiwan National University School of Medicine in Taipei where she completed clinical electives in Radiology and Emergency Medicine.

After moving to the United States, Shynar began volunteering in local clinics and hospitals, gaining most of her U.S. clinical experience through hands‑on work. She spent much of her time at Concord Community Free Clinic in North Carolina, learning from experienced physicians and family nurse practitioners who helped shape her clinical style and confidence.

In 2025, she earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Oregon had always felt special to her, and her husband’s family is from the southern coast. Over the past 10 years, she visited often and grew to love the people, the nature, and the sense of community. That connection played a big part in her decision to move to Oregon, and in 2026 she joined the Dunes Family Health Care team as a Primary Care Provider.

Outside of medicine, Shynar enjoys spending time with her four Airedale Terriers, cooking meals inspired by her Kazakh roots, and exploring the outdoors with her husband.

Welcome, Shynar!

Lower Umpqua Hospital District is upgrading to a new phone system to improve call quality, reliability, and access to care for our community. This upgrade is an important investment in patient safety and communication, and we want to keep you informed every step of the way.
When:
The transition is scheduled for March 3rd, 2026 from 8AM to 9AM PST. During this time, our team will be working to move all main and departmental phone lines to the new system.

We Will Remain Reachable
All essential hospital services will remain available at all times.
This includes:
Emergency Department
Inpatient units
Nursing stations
Clinic services
Hospital switchboard/Admitting

Possible Brief Disruptions
There may be short periods where:
Direct-dial numbers ring through differently
Voicemail systems temporarily change or reset
Some non‑emergency lines experience brief delays
If this occurs, please know our staff is ready to assist and route your call quickly.

Why We’re Upgrading
This new system will provide:
Clearer, more reliable phone calls
Faster call routing to the right department
Improved support for telehealth and remote services
Enhanced security and privacy protections

Thank You for Your Patience
We appreciate your understanding as we complete this important work. Your safety and access to care remain our top priorities.
If you experience any difficulty reaching us during the transition, please call the main hospital number: 541-271-2171 and our staff will assist you immediately.
