It was our great pleasure to speak this week about GFWC California Federation of Women's Clubs members who saved the redwoods with the Peninsula Hills Women's Club of Redwood City, CA.
We especially enjoyed recalling the federation’s annual convention May 1-4, 1923, in Eureka, California. And the April 1933 dedication ceremony for the 90-acre California Federation of Women’s Club Redwood Grove in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The federation raised $40,000 – equivalent of near $700,000 today – to buy the grove and commissioned architect Julia Morgan to design the beautiful hearthstone below with its four fireplaces.
The good work of these women goes on. The Peninsula Hills Women's Club of Redwood City, CA continues to raise money to replant trees in burned areas of California’s national forests. Salute!
