💔 This update has been incredibly difficult to write as we are still grappling with the loss of our sweet Mabel.
We rescued Mabel and her brother Milo from our local county shelter, never knowing just how sick they were or how much help they would need. We brought them into our rescue hoping to give them the safe, loving future they deserved.
On Sunday night, Mabel developed a dangerously low temperature along with severe vomiting and diarrhea. We rushed her to the ER. Her blood work and X-rays revealed that she had a blockage in her digestive track and was septic. Her blood pressure was also dangerously low. Despite their best efforts, the ER medical team was unable to stabilize her for surgery to remove the blockage. The vet was also concerned that she might have panleukopenia and recent PCR test results showed severe gastrointestinal bacterial infection.
Through all the testing and treatment, Mabel was so brave and sweet. She fought so hard, but ultimately her little body reached its limit. We did everything we could for Mabel, but in the end, the kindest thing we could do was to let her go peacefully.
💖 We want to remember Mabel in her brightest moments, like the first time she made biscuits and snuggled and purred. Even though her time was short, she was so vibrant and resilient and her love for her brother Milo was unmatched.
When Milo showed similar symptoms, we brought him in for evaluation. Thankfully, his X-rays did not show a blockage, although his blood work showed signs of infection. We are giving Milo antibiotics and supportive care and he is now thriving! His amazing foster mom is caring for him and teaching him how to be a kitten.
✨Thank you to everyone who has reached out, sent love, and kept Mabel and Milo in your thoughts. Your compassion means more than we can express during such a heartbreaking time.
💔 We wish we could have saved her, but we hope Mabel knew just how deeply she was loved and that, even though her time with us was far too short, she was never alone. Run free, little Mabel. We will meet again over the rainbow bridge. 🌈
