I'm taking lots of deep breaths recently....I'm overwhelmed with all the news and I have run out of ways to explain this to my kids.

Balance in Mind had Josh Webb on to talk about how to talk about frightening things with kids. Josh brought his professional experience in handling traumatic events to parents with advice on how to talk with your kids (littles to bigs).

Begin with the Guided Meditation or jump to discussion between Sheri Gazitt, Teen Wise, and Josh Webb at 7:38.

A Big Shoutout to Coach Sheri Gazzit!
During last week's special summer Parent Chat Friendship Prep- How to encourage your child to create new friendships, Sheri talked about how parents can empower their kids to step out of their comfort zone and build new friendships with confidence. She emphasized the importance of taking off social pressure by encouraging kids to make connections instead of friendships. Sheri shared some useful tips for kids to help ease the anxiety that comes with the new school year like -
- Taking clothing/items that they can use as conversation starters
- Sharing things like candy, pens
- Asking questions about classes/teachers
- Working on their body language
She also talks about social stressors like lunch time for our middle and high school kids and how they can handle it.

Balance In Mind

Balance in Mind is a community based organization working to raise awareness around youth mental health and emotional wellbeing. We began with a group of parents who were concerned about recent teen deaths by su***de. We took time to interview parents, educators, counselors, students, and mental health professionals to try to understand how we could make a difference.

Our mission is to raise awareness around youth emotional health and connect families to existing resources. We serve the mission by educating parents about risk factors, as well as protective factors such as social emotional skills.

We work in conjunction with Lake Washington School District, Lake Washington PTSA Council, local PTSAs, and community organizations supporting mental health.
