Did You Know?…
Pastor Emeritus Anthony W. Green- A pillar in Redlands for over 40 years- was not just a pastor — he was a visionary who understood that ministry often begins exactly where people already are.
Long before Redlands Midnight Hoopz, his heart for young people first took shape at McKendree-Simms-Brookland United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C.
There, he did more than organize games — he created safe spaces for young men to gather, compete, grow, and be discipled. On the court, they developed skill and discipline. In small group Bible studies, they discovered purpose, character, and identity in Christ. That early ministry became the blueprint for everything that followed.
In Redlands, California, he launched Redlands Midnight Hoopz — an outreach ministry that used the game of basketball to build trust, strengthen character, and connect generations with law enforcement.
Pastor Emeritus Green understood that the power of the Gospel is most visible through authentic relationships.
Through intentional partnership with the Redlands Police Department and the City of Redlands Recreation and Community Services, he helped create an environment where barriers were lowered, trust was built, and mutual respect replaced misunderstanding.
And the vision did not stop there.
Midnight Hoopz expanded across state lines into Phoenix, Arizona, through collaboration between First Institutional Baptist Church and Greater Impact Church, impacting even more young lives and communities.
For more than 20 years, the program has continued to run strong — a testament to the sustainability of vision rooted in love.
Pastor Green believed ministry happens in gyms, on courts, and in conversations — wherever hearts are open.
His legacy lives on in every game played, every young life encouraged, and every soul pointed toward hope.
We honor the life and legacy of love Pastor Emeritus Anthony W. Green brought to every generation.
