This past weekend, the Redford community had the opportunity to walk through the new community recreation center ahead of its official opening—and the excitement was palpable.

Residents were able to explore the space, get a feel for the amenities, and envision how this center will serve families, youth, seniors, and individuals looking for accessible fitness and wellness options right here in Redford.

The center officially opens tomorrow for those who purchased early memberships, with access expanding next week for later purchasers and those who are still considering joining now.

This new recreation center is a meaningful investment in:
• Community health and wellness
• Youth programming and physical activity
• Connection, movement, and belonging
• Long-term quality of life in Redford

Community Awareness: Front Yard Gardening Petition 🍅 🥬 🌼

We’ve become aware of a local petition circulating here in Redford and wanted to pass it along in case it aligns with your values and you’d like your voice represented.

The goal is to amend Section 3.05 - Front Yard Use, which currently states:

“Any portion of a residential zoning lot lying in front of a building line shall be used only for ornamental purposes, and nothing, other than trees, shrubs, ornamental lighting fixtures, and decorative fencing shall be placed, erected, or planted thereon.”

This petition proposes allowing the sustainable cultivation of vegetables and fruits in front yards—including raised beds, as long as they’re properly maintained.

Supporters believe residents should have the freedom to grow food on their own property and view home gardening as a meaningful way to build community, promote sustainability, and encourage healthy living.

✳️ This petition does not automatically change the ordinance—it’s simply to show community support. The collected signatures will be presented to the township board to demonstrate interest in allowing front yard gardens.
