Two CWA-sponsored bills signed into law this week!

We’re excited to share that two important pieces of conservation legislation were just signed into law! CWA’s advocacy team worked closely with legislators throughout the process, helping ensure these bills support conservation in California.

✅ AB 764 (Gonzalez) – Allows mute swans to be taken at any time, helping control the rapidly growing population of these invasive birds that threaten native waterfowl and wetland habitats. IMPORTANT NOTE: mute swans can only be taken starting JANUARY 1, 2026. Also note, taking is strictly limited to *mute swans* - the taking of other swans is not permitted by this bill.

✅ AB 1520 (Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee) – Improves the Duck Stamp Program by streamlining how habitat restoration work is contracted, ensuring funds are used more efficiently for critical waterfowl projects.
