The Friends of the Berks County Emergency Response Team The Friends of the Berks County Emergency Response Team (B.C.E.R.T.) B.C.E.R.T has a tactical unit, a crisis negotiation unit and a tactical medic unit.

of the Berks County Community Foundation was established in 2022 to support the team through the purchase of specialized equipment and funding for additional training. The Berks County Emergency Response Team was formed in 2007 and is comprised of highly-trained and skilled officers from throughout Berks County. The team serves as a resource for local, state, and federal agencies in the management

and resolution of special threats and high-risk incidents, including hostage situations, barricaded subjects, high-risk warrant service and apprehensions, special assignments, and active shooters.

Victor Alicea-Velez, was apprehended and taken into custody in the 1200 block of Cotton Street by members of the Berks County Emergency Response Team and the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force.

Reading police obtained an arrest warrant for Alicea-Velez after investigators said he shot a man in the alley behind a residence.
Alicea-Velez was processed and arraigned at the Berks County Sheriff's Central Booking Center, where bail was set at $250,000 secured. He was subsequently transported to the Berks County Jail.

We thank all agencies involved for their coordinated efforts in bringing this individual into custody.

Officer Chris High's wife is currently battling cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Because of her hospitalization and treatments, Officer High is balancing work, taking care of their five children, and getting his wife to her appointments.

The Reading Police Department and BCERT (Berks County Emergency Response Team) conducted search warrants at various locations within the City of Reading Thursday in search of 27-year-old Yusuf Scott, following a kidnapping incident that unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Police say he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact Reading Police Department at 610-655-6116 or contact Crime Alert Berks at 877-373-9913.
