🎃🍂 Decorating season is upon us! 🍂🎃

With October here, our Homes & Businesses of the Month are shifting into decorating season!

For October, November and December, judging will focus on seasonal and holiday decorations. To give everyone plenty of time to get those finishing touches up, judging will begin the 13th of each month, with winners selected later in the month.

👀 See a home or business with great decorations? Nominate them! And yes—you can absolutely nominate your own home or business, too. We want to make sure we don’t miss any of the great decorating happening around Rawlins.

Nomination links in comments because Facebook limits charges our page for having too many links in posts now.

So bring on the pumpkins, fall displays, holiday lights and all the creative touches that make the season a little more fun. We can’t wait to see what Rawlins comes up with! 🏡✨

🪻 Pop-Up Clean-Up! Help us clean up the cemetery flowerbeds and plant irises!
⏰ 9–10 a.m. Wednesday, October 7
💪 Come see what one hour of help can get done!

For this Pop-Up Clean-Up, we’re giving the flowerbeds at the cemetery entrances some fall attention! We’ll spend about an hour planting irises, pulling weeds and grass, and trimming back existing irises.

Bring gloves and your favorite garden tools if you have them, and come pitch in for an hour!

🌱 We may schedule another work day depending on how far we get, so watch this post for updates.

🌿 What a difference a little teamwork can make! 🌿

This month, Uplift Rawlins volunteers spent the morning at The Phoenix pulling weeds, cleaning up the area and planting flowers. By the time we were done, we had a truck bed full of weeds and the corner had some new color! 🌸

Later that afternoon, Louis Espinoza continued the work, mowing the area he and his family have cared for for many years.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time to help! It was a productive day and a good step toward keeping The Phoenix looking its best.

Projects do not have to be brand new—if you’ve completed an improvement you’re proud of, we’d love to see it! Before photos are optional, but encouraged.

🌱✨ Caring for The Phoenix ✨🌱

If you’ve driven or walked through the Washington Street underpass, you’ve seen The Phoenix—a beautiful landscaped area that welcomes visitors and residents alike. What many people don’t know is how it came to be.

Years ago, Councilman Louis Espinoza looked at what was little more than an overlooked stretch of ground and saw potential. Using his council funds and countless hours of his own time, he began transforming the area. Over the years, he has built retaining walls, installed benches, planted flowers, improved the landscaping, and maintained the space season after season.

Like its namesake, The Phoenix rose from something ordinary into something remarkable.

Today, it stands as a testament to what one person can accomplish through vision, dedication, and hard work. Along one of Rawlins’ busiest roads, it has become a place our community can be proud of.

This spring, Louis mowed and maintained the east side of the property while Uplift Rawlins mowed the west side and treated weeds in the paved areas. Since our organization began, we’ve been proud to help support the ongoing care of this special place, and we’re excited to continue partnering with Louis and his family in the years ahead.

And we need you too! This fall, we’ll be joining Louis for a community work day to build another retaining wall using materials he has already secured. Watch for details if you’d like to help continue this amazing tradition of beautification.

Thank you, Louis, for your years of dedication to Rawlins. We’re honored to help carry your vision forward. 💚
