Today, our Forestry CDE team traveled to Moscow to compete in the Idaho State Forestry Contest!

This has been an incredible first year for the team. Through months of practice, they have developed valuable forestry skills, gained hands-on experience, and grown tremendously as competitors and leaders. We are proud of the hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the season.

Now we wait for the results, which will be announced on Friday. No matter the outcome, these students have represented Lakeland FFA well and should be proud of all they have accomplished!

On May 6, Lakeland FFA members rolled up their sleeves and gave back to the community by helping clean up the Lynx Trail at Farragut State Park. This community service event was organized by our Community Service Committee and gave members the opportunity to help keep one of our local outdoor spaces clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

We are incredibly grateful for the support our community gives to Lakeland FFA, and we are always proud to give back whenever we can. Great job to all of our members who volunteered their time and worked hard to make a difference!

Lakeland FFA had an amazing time at our very first Field and Feast event on April 30! 🎉

Hosted by our Chapter Engagement Committee, the goal of the event was to bring members and non-members together for an afternoon of fun, food, and connection. Students enjoyed a FREE lunch, competed in a variety of field games, and spent time building friendships and making memories outside of the classroom.

We are excited to share that the event was a huge success with over 70 students participating! Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make our first Field and Feast such a fun and welcoming event. We can’t wait to do it again! 💙💛

From Egg to Chick: Science in Action!

Our Livestock Management students have been busy diving into the world of poultry, it’s been an egg-citing ride! 🥚➡️🐥

Over the past few weeks, students have:

>Incubated eggs while tracking real-time data like temperature, humidity, egg weights, and development stages

>Collected and analyzed data to understand how conditions impact successful hatches

>Graded eggs using industry standards for both interior and exterior quality

>Explored egg anatomy, identifying structures like the chalaza, albumen, yolk, and air cell

>Learned how eggs are formed inside the hen from ovulation to shell formation

>Witnessed the hatching process, watching chicks pip, zip, and emerge into the world!

And the best part…
>Getting to hold the chicks they helped bring to life!

This unit brings science to life in the most hands-on way possible: connecting biology, agriculture, and real-world skills. These students aren’t just learning… they’re doing.

Check out these moments of students identifying egg parts and meeting their fluffy new arrivals!

Farm Bureau Discussion Meet Success!
Today, our Ag Leadership students competed in the local Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, taking on two rounds of 20-minute discussions. Students tackled important topics like how the Farm Bureau can better engage small-scale producers and how shifting language from “just a farmer/rancher” to “your farmer/rancher” can strengthen connections with the public.

Every student did an outstanding job, demonstrating strong agricultural knowledge, professionalism, and a passion for advocating for agriculture.

Top 3 Finishers:
1st Place: Olivia Villa
2nd Place: Charlee Friddle
3rd Place: Margaret K***z

Olivia will advance to the district finals on January 30!

A huge thank you to the Kootenai/Shoshone Farm Bureau and the judges who volunteered their time to make this event possible. Your support and commitment to agricultural education truly make a difference.

Great work to all of our competitors, and best of luck to Olivia as she moves on!
