Monument Health Foundation has fulfilled its $7.1 million philanthropic commitment to the Children’s Expansion at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, completing a community fundraising effort that began in 2022.

Made possible by generous individuals, families, businesses and community partners throughout the region, the Foundation’s contribution will support a $48 million, 63,000-square-foot addition designed to transform care for mothers, newborns and children across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. Monument Health broke ground on the project July 23, with construction scheduled to continue from August 2026 through February 2028.

Lieutenant Steve Hauswald dedicated his life to serving others. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy before continuing his commitment to our community with the Rapid City Fire Department. Steve’s leadership, compassion, and dedication left a lasting impact on our department and the people he served.

We are grateful to see Steve’s legacy honored through the Monument Health Foundation’s Honorary Room Recognition campaign. Donations will help dedicate the Steve Hauswald EMS Community Room, supporting emergency medical care in our community while recognizing Steve’s years of service.

Today is Miracle Treat Day, and the Monument Health Foundation team spent it with 2026 CMN Champion Claire. 🍦 Every Blizzard® sold today at participating Dairy Queen locations sends $1 or more to kids' care close to home — supporting medical equipment, patient comfort items, and travel assistance for families seeking care for their children.

Miracle Treat Day is Dairy Queen's biggest fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network. At Monument Health, every dollar stays local, supporting western South Dakota families and their children.

South Dakota Dairy Queen locations have raised over $266,000 for local kids through this partnership. Grab a Blizzard today and be part of it.

Monument Health broke ground today on the Children’s Hospital Expansion at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, marking the start of construction on a $48 million project that will transform care for mothers, babies and children across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming.

Monument Health Foundation began raising funds for the Children’s Expansion in 2022 and has worked steadily with donors and community members to build support for the project. The generosity of donors and community members carried the Foundation to its full fundraising goal of $7.1 million for the project.

The 63,000-square-foot addition will include 19 Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum rooms. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will move from an open bay environment to 25 private and semiprivate rooms, made up of 17 private rooms and four twin bays. Construction is expected to run from August 2026 through February 2028.

Every dollar raised stays local to support children, like 2026 CMN Champion Claire, and families across western South Dakota and the surrounding region to provide life-saving medical equipment, patient comfort items, financial assistance for families traveling for care and other critical pediatric needs.
