This week, Badlands National Park Conservancy staff and board members will join fellow park partner organizations at the National Park Friends Alliance Annual Meeting at Rocky Mountain National Park.

BNPC Board Member Dorothy Fire Cloud will moderate a panel on park partners’ role in Tribal relationships, while Executive Director Marissa Marshall will lead a discussion about dark skies and national parks for groups interested in pursuing Dark Sky designation.

We look forward to learning, building connections, and sharing the knowledge and successful projects taking place here in the Badlands! 🏞️

Brian Monheiser brings more than 25 years of experience in geospatial technology, strategic consulting and business development, along with a passion for conservation, science and spatial education.

Mar Naibi brings more than 25 years of global travel and tourism experience, specializing in conservation- and sustainability-rooted programming that connects people, places and stories.

Mark Jobman brings extensive experience in landscape architecture, trail development and public lands, with a strong commitment to thoughtful partnerships and sustainable outdoor recreation.

Together, Brian, Mar and Mark bring valuable perspectives and expertise that will support BNPC’s continued growth and the long-term stewardship of the Badlands. We are thrilled to have them on board! 👏

🌌 People Behind the Dark Skies: Chris Huot
Six years ago, Chris Huot discovered a passion for the night sky and astrophotography. Since then, the local ophthalmologist has spent countless nights in Badlands National Park, often alongside his wife, with a telescope and camera in tow.
For Chris, looking into the vast universe doesn’t make him feel small. Instead, it creates a powerful sense of connection to the people and world around him.
“Go out on a moonless night with clear skies, and you’ll see what I mean.” ✨

Calling all future Junior Rangers! 🏞️

Junior Ranger Day is coming to Badlands National Park on Sunday, August 30! From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., families can stop by the Ben Reifel Visitor Center for hands-on activities exploring the park’s wildlife, fossils, geology, bird migration, and more, plus Junior Ranger Swearing-In Ceremonies at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Join for one activity or spend the whole day exploring! No sign-up is required!

Can’t make it? Ranger programs continue through September, offering even more opportunities to discover the geology, paleontology, ecology, and night sky that make Badlands National Park so extraordinary. We hope to see you in the park! 🌿🦅🦴

A partial lunar eclipse will be visible across the state Thursday night, with more than 96% of the Moon’s disk passing into Earth’s darkest shadow at its peak.
