UPDATE

IMPORTANT DEWEY-BURDOCK PROJECT – JULY UPDATE
In the past couple of weeks, the companies that want to mine radioactive and toxic uranium at the proposed Dewey-Burdock project in Custer and Fall River Counties have been busy. They have been actively working to convince the media, the public, and potential investors that they have all their federal permits for the project. Even media outlets that usually provide factual journalism have repeated the companies’ messages. That is – at best – a half-truth.

Black Hills Clean Water Alliance recently shared an update on our website about the Dewey-Burdock project for July, so you can stay informed with clear and accurate information.

The Dewey-Burdock project has been under consideration for some time, and the resulting information is extensive; most of it is summarized on our website (link below).

The main highlights of our July update are: (1) the company does NOT possess all federal permits; (2) they have submitted applications for new water permits, with additional requests possibly in progress.

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW
Submitting new applications restarts the state permitting processes from the beginning, giving individuals and groups a chance to sign up as intervenors. If someone chooses to do this, there will be a public hearing. So, if the water rights applications are approved for continued processing, there’s a great opportunity for people who care about protecting water to get involved by becoming intervenors.

If the opportunity to apply to be an intervenor arises, the application window will be just 10 days. So, keep an eye out for that, and follow us to stay up to date on what happens next! Please visit our website to read the full July Dewey-Burdock update.
Thank you.

If there were any issues during the June municipal runoff election, we want to highlight what happened so we can work with officials to ensure that voters in future elections are not facing similar disenfranchisement and that the voting process will be improved for everyone.
