Important information to review.
As summer temperatures rise, the Village of Rantoul reminds residents that private swimming pools must be maintained in a safe condition to help prevent accidents and protect children and neighboring properties.
Under the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), all swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas capable of containing water more than 24 inches deep must be protected by an approved barrier. Key safety requirements include:
✔ A fence, wall, or barrier at least 48 inches (4 feet) in height surrounding the pool area
✔ Gates that are self-closing and self-latching
✔ Gates that open outward, away from the pool area
✔ Barriers maintained in good repair and free of openings that allow unauthorized access
✔ Pool areas kept free of hazards and maintained in a sanitary condition
These requirements are designed to reduce the risk of accidental drowning and unauthorized access, especially by young children.
Residents are encouraged to inspect their pool barriers regularly and make any necessary repairs to remain compliant and ensure a safe summer for everyone.
