Today, we celebrate 250 years of freedom, courage, and the enduring American spirit.

As we honor the generations who fought to secure our liberty and the freedom we celebrate today, we also recognize those who continue to protect our communities every day—our law enforcement officers, first responders, military members, and the citizens who step forward to make a difference.

This Independence Day, let’s celebrate not only our nation’s remarkable history, but our shared commitment to building safer communities for generations to come.

Tomorrow, Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, the Hamm Miller Diedrich American Legion Post 145 will conduct Military Honors at area cemeteries in remembrance of and respect for our Veterans and service members who have passed away.

Each ceremony includes a memorial prayer, a three-round volley by the Honor Guard, and the playing of Taps.

The following is the schedule for the day (please be patient if we fall behind schedule):
9:00 – St. Paul's Cemetery - Silver Creek
9:20 - St. Mary's Cemetery - Hwy 144
9:45 - Random Lake Union Cemetery - Random Lake Road
10:15 - St. Nicholas Cemetery - Dacada
10:45 - Heritage Hill Cemetery - Vorpahl Rd
11:10 - St. John's Lutheran Cemetery - Sherman Center
11:30 - Memorial Triangle in Random Lake (First Street and Bentert Street)

Yesterday members of the American Legion Family 145 took some time to recognize the men and women who are currently serving in the six branches of the armed forces.

So today, on Armed Forces Day, we honor those who are serving right now — Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve — and we honor the families whose love and support make their service possible..

May we live lives worthy of their sacrifice. And may God bless our service members, their families, this community, and the United States of America.

11:30 AM - Armed Forces Recognition
Members of the public are invited to join members of the American Legion Family #145 recognize the branches of the Armed Forces as part of Armed Forces Day at the Memorial Triangle.

1:00 PM - Special Presentation - "Brownie the War Dog, A Veteran's Hero"
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary 145 will be hosting a special presentation following the Historical Society's Annual Meeting at the Community Depot. Members of the public are invited to this event.

In Support of the Silver Creek Fire Dept. Mini Bowling Tournament, the Random Lake Auxiliary Unit #145 will be cancelling the annual Pig Roast on March 7th. Sorry for any inconvenience. An ad will be going into the Sounder soon.
