In just two and a half days, Feline Rescue Project of Central Vermont will be temporarily closing our doors so we can take some much-needed time to rest, recover, and reset.
For the last year and a half, our little two-person team has been available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Behind the rescue, we’re also two people with families, jobs, responsibilities, and lives that have often had to take a back seat to the animals who needed us. We’ve poured so much of ourselves into this work, and while we wouldn’t trade the lives we’ve saved for anything, we’ve reached a point where we need to take care of ourselves, too.
Having to turn away recent requests for help has been absolutely devastating. Every single one weighs on us. We know there are still animals out there who need us, and stepping away, even temporarily, is one of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make.
But before we close this chapter, even briefly, we have something incredible to celebrate.
In just TWO WEEKS, we found homes for TWELVE kittens! ❤️
Twelve little lives. Twelve new beginnings. Twelve reasons to be incredibly proud of what this community has helped us accomplish.
To every single person who stepped forward to adopt, shared our posts, spread the word, or helped us find these babies their forever families: THANK YOU. We cannot adequately express how much your support has meant to us, especially during these final weeks. You showed up when we needed you, and because of you, so many kittens are heading into wonderful new lives.
We are now down to just FOUR kittens still waiting for their forever homes! Every kitten remaining in our care will continue to receive the love, attention, and veterinary care they need until they’re ready to go home. Closing our doors to new intakes does not mean walking away from the little lives we’ve already promised to protect.
And please know, this is not goodbye.
We love this work. We love these animals. We love the community that has supported us. But we also recognize that two people cannot sustain a 24/7 rescue operation indefinitely without eventually running out of steam.
We’re going to take a little time to breathe, spend time with our families, and figure out a new game plan that allows us to continue helping animals without sacrificing our own well-being in the process.
We will be back. Hopefully a little more rested, a little more organized, and better equipped to keep doing the work that means so much to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in this tiny rescue with such an enormous mission. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, and even more grateful that we haven’t had to do it alone.
With so much love and gratitude,
The Feline Rescue Project of Central Vermont 🐾❤️
